Changes in Antarctic ice

The Antarctic peninsula extends further north than the rest of Antarctica and has experienced greater temperature rises. The Larsen A and B ice shelves have broken up in recent decades. The Larsen C ice shelf seems to be becoming less stable. A huge iceberg may break off soon. It covers 5000 km2

Ice shelves are important because they delay the advance of glaciers towards the sea.

There are concerns over the stability of other ice shelves including the huge Ross ice shelf.
